International Yarnbombing Day

18 05 2011

Hello loves,

I just found something so, so, very, very interesting… and fun!  I’ve got a great project in the works for International Yarn Bombing Day on June 11th.  Read up on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/International-Yarn-Bombing-Day-June-11th-2011/104441312968198?sk=wall or on the official blog: http://iybd.blogspot.com/

I think this is a great idea and I encourage any knitters in Vernon who want to get a little rogue to get some scraps out and get ready to make Vernon COLOURFUL!!!  (Speaking of which – it was explained to me the other day that Hospital hill is quite grey to walk along.  Plenty of opportunity for more colour there…) I’d love to organise something to make Vernon colourific.  Let me know if you’re interested!

Last Knitification for a few weeks in Vernon

1 09 2010

Hello loves,

Yep, that’s right.  For the next 5 weeks or so, any posts I put up will be in the “knitified* out of town” category.  This is the last yarnbomb in Vernon for the next few weeks.  It’s a cute little crocheted fishnet and it’s at Okanagan College –  Kalamalka campus on the upper parking lot.

So in the next few weeks, I have plans to knitify San Francisco, Honolulu and large swaths of New Zealand.  Right now I have no idea how when or often I’ll get to post these knitifications, but I’ll do as soon as I can.  Subscribe for updates or check back often.

New Yarnbomb in Vernon

26 08 2010

Hello loves,

Well, there they are.  Riot on the Roof isn’t until Saturday night, but I’ve installed early.  Hopefully they make it until then.  It’s only 50 hours away…  Also, I think I made a good impression on the lady from Nighthawk security.  She was doing her rounds and as I pulled out the camera to snap a few shots of my fancywork, she came over and asked why I “put that there?” so I told her about the event that the youth ambassador at the VPAG has put together and she said, “Oh yes, that’s right!  I thought maybe that’s what you were up to, but I thought i should check” and she introduced herself and we shook hands, had a little chat and wished eachother a nice evening.  Nice lady.

This little yarnbomb comes with a challenge.  THINK.  And so now the parkade is cozied and I’m sad that I’ll miss the event.  I think it’s going to be really fun!  Like I mentioned in my last post, if anyone is at the event and happens to get some pics of my little cozy during the event, I’d LOVE to put them up here.  Sending them to knitified (at) yahoo (dot) ca would be very much appreciated.

In other news, I occasionally talk about music, because in addition to my knitting compulsion, I’m also a music freak.  And quickly, I just have to tell about my end of summer party.  We called it “See Out Summer With the Cool Kids” and we were lucky enough to be able to host Aidan Knight who wooed us with his melodic, dynamic and soulful tunes.  I was a huge fan of Aidan’s already – I saw him play with Dan Mangan in Kelowna earlier this year – but talking to him, he’s such a nice guy and so talented and of course his song Knitting Something Nice proves just how cool he really is.  (Moni, I know how sad you are that you couldn’t be there! You were in my heart all night long.  TO is a long way away…)  Seriously great guy and his band guys were awesome too.  I’m going to knit them all mittens.  I figure I can get 2 pairs done on the flight to New Zealand and holy fuck it just occured to me that I could guerilla knit on the plane ride!!! (I think I’ll stay away from the term “yarnbomb” when planes are involved… yea, good plan.)  But back to Aidan: if you don’t know his music, look it up.  Thanks be to Aidan, Dave, Olivier and Collin (if I remember correctly) for a great night and to all the lovelies that came out to support independant music and a good time.  Um, and if anyone has any good pictures from Monday night, send me some.  All mine suck.  Mostly I blame the absinthe.

Riot on the Roof – new bomb coming soon!

25 08 2010

Hello loves,

Riot on the Roof at the Vernon Public Art Gallery is on Saturday, and even though I won’t be in town, I’ll have a cozy there taking part for me.

Here’s a picture of it in progress.

You can read about the event here.  Small typo in there… apparently they’re expecting me to be YARD bombing.  Hmmm, that sounds more violent than what I normally do.  I’ll stick with the yarn.

I’ll post pictures of it installed as soon as I’ve got it in place.  Also, if anyone is at the Riot, (Saturday at 8:00 pm) I’d LOVE a picture of my piece at the event with people around and everything… hint hint.  Like I said, I can’t be there.  (boo!)   Any kind people can email pics to:

knitifed (at) yahoo (dot) ca

More coming soon.

Unofficial Go-Ahead? Maybe…

28 07 2010

Hello loves,

Here’s an overdue update… I dedicate it to Monica because without her, there would be no knitted tree penis.

I know it’s been a while.  But, to make up for the delay, I’ve got a few things to make this update worth the wait.

First, here’s me!  http://www.castanet.net/events/details/14508.  Cool, hey?

In guerrilla knitting news, here’s a picture of one little knitification that I did last night.  It’s just a little post cozy, but it’s red and so it deserves attention.  I don’t know what else to say on that but that it’s red.

So here’s something fun.  Last night at stitch n bitch, we, us ladies, were all happily stitching away on our various projects, enjoying our fancywork and bitching about all manner of interesting topics (did you know there’s a place in Kentucky called Penile? Yes there is.)  So as we were sitting there on the bench, on the group W bench, a lady came over and said to us “Hey guys, I really love the guerrilla knitting!  Keep it up!  I’m with the Community Policing Unit and we all just love it!  And so do the bylaw officers!  We just all get a hoot out of it…  The only one we really *had* to take down was the penis one, and mostly just because we got some complaints, but I think it was because the grandpa who complained was jealous…”  We were laughing and I felt justified, and I’m pretty sure she was right about the grandpa being jealous because that tree is pretty well hung.  Ironically, when they took the pink penis cozy down, they left the tree’s woody, so it’s still pretty explicit – it just doesn’t have woollen balls anymore.  Beyond that, it has green lichen growing out of the tip, so that’s just vile.  Okaaaaay.

Big news: knitified* is going to New Zealand!  I don’t know much about NZ, but I’m researching.  So far, I know that New Zealand has sheep and sheep have wool and wool means yarn and yarn means KNITTING!  So I’m looking forward to a knitting holiday.  I want to tour sheep farms and stuff.  Maybe they have sheep shearing for tourists.

Also, since I’ll be away from my own knit knit BOOOM! stitch n bitch for 5 whole weeks (how will I live without it?) (Oh, I know, I’ll be in New Zealand), I’m going to have to crash some stitchery sessions on the other side of the planet and see if I can’t find some ladies with which to create knit graffiti.

knitified* hits Vertigo

23 06 2010

So here’s the big deal:

knitified* is on the NOAA featured members wall at Gallery Vertigo in Vernon!!!  If you’re in Vernon, stop by to see it before July 31… Gallery Vertigo is open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 am-4 pm and they always have great shows.

I just might have to yarnbomb the little gallery that could.  Doesn’t the light switch on the members wall look like it’s begging for a cozy? Or maybe the banister going up the stair case?  Hmmm…

In other news, I’m knitting my ass off to get some little bombs done for my trip to Castlegar and the west Kootenays.  I think on the drive down and the drive back I should have ample time to get my little knits out.  So now it’s a question of volume. I need to knit.

Word.

“holy fuck the little bastard is knitting!”

15 06 2010

Hello loves,

I know it’s been long overdue, but guess what…  I’ve got something big coming up.  Not saying yet, but I’ll post pics as soon as I’ve got everything ready – probably later this week… it’ll be fun.

In the meantime, here are 3 new guerilla knits that I got out today.  The dino was at the Bean Scene and he really looked like he was wanting to join in the fun, so I gave him some tapestry needles and a ball of yarn, you know, just as a joke. I finish my drink and look over and holy fuck the little bastard is knitting.  And so very photogenic.

The two trains were fun. Not much to say except that trains are WAY BIGGER the closer you get to them.  I always forget that and am surprised each time that happens.  Also, I was expecting a bit more in the way of more, shall I say, “traditional” graffiti.  Just a few tags, but not much else or I would have included that here as well.

A few upcoming plans that I CAN divulge: I’ll be in Kaslo, Nelso, Cresto and maybe Trail and Rossland later in the month. I’m really working on my greater stomping grounds.  Also, there may be a trip to Banff in the works.  I’ve heard some interesting rumours…

Quick update before GLEE starts!!!

19 05 2010

Okay this has to be fast.  Glee starts in 10.  Here’s an old one from two weeks ago (it’s gone now) and the new one from 25 minutes ago.  Some creepy dude did this driveby watching thing followed by a driveby watching thing in the other direction.  Weirdo! Maybe he’s a bylaw guy. Hope not.  A LOT of my knitifications have been taken down lately.  The flowers on Main, the parking meter cozy, this red one… Lots.  So I think I’m gonna lay off the outdoors ones for a bit so i can do some indoor ones.  I have some great ideas.  And also, I think I might be in Kamloops soon, so I’ll knitify that fair city by the river.

Okay, gotta run, Glee’s starting, and then I gotta watch Things We Lost in the Fire with Benecio del Toro.  Because anyone who knows me knows it’s all about the Benecio. That man is fucking HOT. I know it’s weird.  I can’t explain it.  Nom nom nom.

Word to ya mutha.

Knitified Shennanigans

6 05 2010

Hey, friend.

Here’s downtown Vernon last night.  Fun stuff.

Also, here’s my next project:

Should be fun.  I cast on for it last night at Stitch & Bitch when I got sick of weaving in ends.  Fun stuff.

I still need ideas for who’s next in my series, so let me know who you think I should do.

Knitified, Bitch!

4 03 2010
Okay, so I will resolve for the month of March to be more vigilant in always knitting knitting knitting so as to have a ready stash of knitifications ready to knitify. I’d like to have a few in my bag ready to go at any time.

Here’s one for the meantime. After putting this up, for a job well done, the meemats lady and I tried to do a celebratory jumping hi5 but brutally failed. Didn’t quite end up with hands jammed in faces, but it was close. Laughed so hard I almost peed myself.

Fun times…

This is me showing off the tag.
